New WalkNI.com Website Inspiring Walkers To Get Outside

16th October 2019

We have launched our new WalkNI.com website packed full of inspirational content and bespoke new features. The website which is used by over half a million walkers annually has been created to ensure planning your next walk has never been more enjoyable.

Taking the best of the original well-loved and used website and adding some bespoke new features, it is anticipated that our new website will help walkers in both the planning and exploring stages of their walk. Bespoke interactive mapping allows easy access to a digital map wherever you are meaning walking around in circles is a thing of the past!

Jayne Woodrow Marketing Officer for Outdoor Recreation NI who manages WalkNI.com commented,
“Whether you are planning a Sunday stroll with the family or a more challenging long distance walk along a section of the Ulster Way, WalkNI is the perfect first stop for inspiration and information on trails right across Northern Ireland. The first thing about our new website is that it is finally mobile friendly! The second is that we have redesigned the website with walkers’ experiences and opinions at the heart. This includes live links to your favourite #WalkNI moments from Instagram, a ‘Review this walk’ feature and the ability to report any problems you encounter to land managers.”

The new look WalkNI was funded by several councils namely; Newry Mourne and Down, Causeway Coast and Glens, Fermanagh and Omagh, Armagh Banbridge and Craigavon, Mid Ulster, Belfast City and North Down and Ards. Further funding support for the development was provided by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency and Sport NI.

Reflecting on the website David Small, Chief Executive of Northern Ireland Environmental Agency said:

“NIEA are delighted to have partnered with Outdoor Recreation NI and local councils to update WalkNI. This website showcases the fantastic variety of routes available right on people’s doorsteps and helps local communities and visitors to explore our living, working and active landscape.  We hope the website will help people connect with nature, and have an ongoing positive impact on each of our health and well-being.”
