Galway / Mayo Blueway Feasibility Study

The Challenge

To prepare a feasibility study into the development requirements and economic potential of a Galway and Mayo Blueway in the region extending from Lough Mask in County Mayo to Galway Bay in County Galway along the Corrib and associated waterways and canal network.


The Role

To undertake desk research, fieldwork, and consultation to:

Scope and define the potential Blueway, building on the existing infrastructure that is in place and improving the economic activity surrounding the proposed Blueway.

Prepare

  • Fully costed implementable recommendations to achieve Blueway status for Lough Mask, Lough Corrib and the City waterways and adjacent lands
  • Fully costed implementable recommendations facilitating safe, sustainable and increased access to the Waterways for water based activities from publicly owned lands
  • Related recommendations for tourist focused recreation activities in adjacent public lands
  • Supporting measures/products to promote the area and enhance visitor experience of any proposed facilities
