Glendalough and Wicklow Mountains National Parks

The Challenge

To prepare a Visitor Experience and Management Masterplan (Glendalough and Wicklow Mountains National Park) and Visitor Orientation Recommendations (Co. Wicklow). To include:

  1. Recommendations for Visitor Management and Orientation throughout Glendalough and Wicklow Mountains National Park including on arrival in Glendalough, Wicklow Mountains National Park and in the village of Laragh
  2. Visitor Centre(s) role and optimal location and optimal future experience for visitors
  3. Visitor Facilities – including – toilets, catering and retail.
  4. Interpretation and Orientation at the Car Parks, at the Visitor Centre(s), at the Monastic Site and throughout the National Park in a manner appropriate to the significance and sensitivities of the site and in accordance with national policy
  5. Consultations with all key stakeholders both individually and via public meetings as appropriate
  6. Additional/Alternative entry points to the Wicklow Mountains National Park should be explored.
  7. Prepare concept designs, Order of Magnitude Costs and maps for the various phases of the Visitor Experience Development and Visitor Management Plan. This plan should consider access capacity, interpretation, visitor facilities, visitor experience and information

The Role

Outscape’s specific role is to:

  • Undertake Visitor Analysis
  • Prepare a Recreational Trail Masterplan
  • Identify Outdoor Activity experiences
